We had 47 divers and twelve land crew who managed to collect over half a tonne of rubbish from Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour in 2 hours.

The 3rd annual Cape to Cape Beach Clean Up was held  over the weekend, Oct 13 &amp; 14. Over 300 volunteers registered to clean up local beaches between Augusta, Cape Naturaliste and even as far north as Dalyellup. Initial data is coming in and it looks like we will beat last year's  results.

The site is west and north of the WA Marine Labs and is at the centre of the Watermans Observation Area within the Marmion Marine Park. It is an ideal site for the less experienced diver as it is approx 6m max depth.

I have heard of locals diving here, though know nothing more about the lake. I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone dive here without finding more information or local regulations relating to the lake.

I had planned to spend a weekend diving and socialising at the lake, but, work put a stop to that.
The lake was once a coal mine and has a maximum depth of 32m. On the day I was there visability was about 50cm, the reason for this, I was told, was that recent rain was being pumped from a nearby coal mine. Researchers Kyle Van Houtan &amp; Daniel Pauly claim they have found evidence of damage incurred by bottom trawling. Using satellite images, the research supports the view that fishing with rockhoppers and dredges harms the ocean more than any other human activity. The survey was assisted by divers from the Underwater Explorers Club. A report identifying coral abundance, size and type, the Cockburn Sound Coral Survey, was prepared by the UEC Environmental Officer.

Two types of sunfish visit WA waters; short sunfish, Mola ramsayi, and oblong sunfish, Triurus laevis. Sunfish dorsal fins are often mistakenly identified as large sharks.
Sunfish are a pelagic species that prefer deep oceans, although sightings off Perth are infrequent.
